Iron sulfide is generally the product of desulfurization with iron oxide desulfurizer. Iron oxide desulfurization is a very common means of desulfurization. The following is the mechanism of producing iron sulfide:

Iron oxide desulfurizer is a kind of desulfurizer with hydrate of active iron oxide (Fe2O3) as the main desulfurizing component. At room temperature, iron oxide (Fe2O3) is divided into α- Hydrate and γ- Hydrate, both of which have desulfurization effect. Non hydrate iron oxide has no desulfurization effect at room temperature.

Iron oxide desulfurizer has been rapidly promoted in recent years because of its large sulfur capacity, low price and air regeneration at room temperature. The main reason is that it can desulfurize H2S in the gas source under anaerobic conditions (activated carbon does not desulfurize under anaerobic conditions). After improvement in recent years, the water resistance and desulfurization accuracy of iron oxide have been greatly improved, and it is suitable for most industrial desulfurization projects.

It is mainly used in the gas source environment with high hydrogen sulfide, the environment without oxygen or the environment with low oxygen content. Such as hydrogen sulfide removal of biogas, gas, water gas and coking gas.

The reaction equation is as follows: Fe2O3 · h2o+3h2s → fe2s3 · h2o+3h2o Δ H=-63kJ/mol

Fe2O3·H2O+3H2S→2FeS+S+4H2O Δ H=-10kJ/mol

Iron oxide desulfurizer reacts with H2S and releases heat. According to different hydration properties of iron oxide, the above different reaction forms are produced.

2Fe2S3·H2O+3O2 →2Fe2O3·H2O+6S Δ H=-126kJ/mol

2FeS·H2O+3O2+2H2O →2Fe2O3·H2O+4S Δ H=-179kJ/mol

Iron sulfide and iron disulfide produce the above reduction reaction and release heat under aerobic conditions and appropriate temperature.
