The theoretical sulfur content of pyrite is 53.45% and the theoretical iron content is 46.55%, but the general sulfur content is about 35%. Pyrite produced in nature often contains silicon, lead, zinc, copper, arsenic, carbon and other elements. Its color is mostly light brass or gray black. Its surface is metallic luster, and its powder is usually gray black.
In addition, the difference between effective sulfur content and total sulfur content of pyrite: effective sulfur refers to the sulfur precipitated when the roasting temperature of pyrite sample is 850 ℃, that is, sulfide sulfur in pyrite. Total sulfur refers to the sulfur in sulfate minerals and metal sulfides in pyrite in addition to effective sulfur. Generally, the quality of pyrite ore is evaluated by the effective sulfur content, and the difference between the two is about 1.5 sulfur.
